According to Jam Jam Online, the Portuguese national football team settled for a 1-1 draw against Congo in their first match of the 2026 World Cup group stage, so that one of the early surprises of this competition took place.
This meeting was held from 20:30 on Wednesday evening and within the framework of the 2026 World Cup Group K competitions, with the referee Abdulrahman Jassim. Joao Nus scored for Portugal in the 6th minute and Yoan Visa scored the equalizing goal for Congo in the 45+5th minute.
Portugal started the game offensively and relying on the possession of the ball and the technical ability of its players, put pressure on the opponent’s goal from the very first minutes. The superiority of Roberto Martínez’s students soon paid off and João Nous scored the first goal of the game with a header into the Congolese goal.

After this goal, the Portuguese were still the best team on the field and they were looking to increase the difference with combined play and short passes. However, Congo gradually eased out of the early pressure and equalized in the dying moments of the first half on a corner kick and a header from Yoan Visa.
In the second half, Portugal once again controlled the pulse of the game and tried to achieve the lead by relying on the experience of Cristiano Ronaldo and the creativity of his midfielders. The most important situation of this half happened in the 50th minute; where Portugal opened Congo’s goal for the second time, but the team’s goal was disallowed due to Joao Cancelo’s offside.
The pressure of the Portuguese in the final minutes was also ineffective and the resistance of the Congolese players continued until the match ended with a 1-1 draw.
In this way, Cristiano Ronaldo and his friends started the 2026 World Cup by losing two valuable points, and Congo also surprised by gaining one point against one of the contenders in the group.
