Bushfire at Jalan Lautan 7 on Monday night.
MIRI (April 21): Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) personnel here have expressed concern over the increasing number of recurring busfire incidents at different locations across Miri, saying such repeated cases are stretching manpower and delaying response efforts.
On Monday, firefighters from the Miri Central Fire Station were called to Jalan Lautan 7 in the Luak area after receiving reports of a bushfire at about 8.02pm.
A team was immediately deployed to the scene, located about nine kilometres away. Upon arrival, they found approximately 0.05 hectares of bush land had been affected by the fire.
Firefighters promptly carried out extinguishing operations using one attack hose line and fire beaters until the blaze was fully brought under control and extinguished.
After ensuring the surrounding area was safe, the team returned to the station at about 10.50pm.
Bomba personnel said bushfire incidents in the district have been occurring repeatedly in recent weeks, forcing firefighters to return to the same or nearby locations multiple times.
They also noted that Miri Airport had experienced flight delays over the past two days due to reduced visibility caused by smoke from nearby bushfires.
The department warned that repeated open burning and unattended fires, especially during persistently hot and dry weather conditions, could easily trigger larger bushfires and pose risks to nearby residential areas as well as aviation operations.
