The director of the Pension and Disability Insurance Fund (PIOM) Nikola Memov participated in the round table – working session – “Labour shortage: From challenge to opportunity through active aging and using positive experiences” organized by the Chamber of Macedonia for Private Insurance, states the PIOM Fund in a statement that MIA transmits in its entirety.
The purpose of the event, as it was said, is to update the situation with the workforce in the field of private security and find a solution for its improvement.
In his presentation, Director Memov emphasized that the PIOM Fund is an institution that does not create policies in the area, but gives suggestions on how to improve the situation based on the work experience.
– I believe that pensioners who want to and are in good health should have the opportunity to work. The current state of the labor market shows that there is a need for them. In the field of private security, they can really make a contribution, because they have a lot of experience and have the required skills – Memov said and added that the employment of pensioners should only apply to employment in the private sector.
He clarified that with the legal enabling of the hiring of pensioners, there will be a triple benefit.
– With the employment of pensioners, the employers will have people with whom they will fill the jobs and for whom they will pay contributions. With that, the state will benefit, because it will collect funds for pension, health insurance and other fees, and the pensioners themselves will benefit, because they will have both a pension and a salary – emphasizes the director of the Fund.
Prof. Dr. Lazar Jovevski said that this is a topic that is deeply related to the survival and future of the state. He added that the aging of the nation is a fact, and there are two ways to solve the problem.
– One way is to import labor, which has its own consequences, which we see from the experience in Western countries, and the second way is to internally reorganize and overcome the shortcomings. If all stakeholders agree that the second path will be taken, then the legal-economic regulatory framework will have to be redefined, which will enable new solutions for employment, and rules on the labor market – said Jovevski.
The president of the Chamber, Verica Mileska-Stefanovska, emphasized that the private security sector is facing problems that need to be solved soon. She presented several examples from our region where pensioners are allowed to get a job and keep their pension.
The participants of the round table emphasized that changes must be made in the legal regulation as soon as possible and thereby provide a workforce that will fill the vacant jobs in the private security sector.
