The celebration for Paraguay’s victory against Türkiye in the 2026 World Cup also left incidents in the downtown area of Asunción. The Police reported arrests for attempted theft, drug possession and a brawl that led to stone attacks against agents of the security operation.
The joy for victory of the Paraguayan team against Türkiye in the 2026 World Cup was marred by a series of incidents recorded during the early hours of this Saturday in the center of Asunción.
While hundreds of fans celebrated the albirrojo victory in the streets, the National Police had to intervene in several procedures related to riots, attempted theft, possession of illicit substances and confrontations between individuals.
The head of the 3rd Metropolitan Police Stationchief commissioner German Chenareported that several people were taken to the police station as part of the operation deployed to guarantee security during the celebrations.

Arrested for drugs, theft and fights
According to the police chief, among those arrested are people caught with narcotic substancesin addition to suspects involved in an attempted cell phone theft.
Likewise, two men were recently taken to the police station after being involved a fight in the middle of a public street. According to the first reports, one of them would be a minor, a situation that had to be verified to communicate the case to the competent authorities for Children and Adolescents.
Chena pointed out that complaints were also received related to the theft of cell phones, one of the crimes that usually increases in massive concentrations of people.

Stones against agents of the operation
One of the most tense episodes occurred when a group of people threw stones at police officers who were trying to control a brawl.
According to the commissioner, the incidents occurred when officers were trying to transport those involved to the police headquarters for identification and clarification of the facts.
The delayed people would be linked to the Ricardo Brugada neighborhoodalthough the Police continued to verify identities and circumstances surrounding the confrontation.
The police chief also indicated that one of those involved showed obvious signs of having consumed alcoholic beverages, although the testing was subject to the determination of the judicial authorities.
No complaints for damage to public property
Despite the incidents recorded, the Police reported that so far did not receive complaints related to damage to posters, signs or public infrastructure.
The authorities stressed that the main objective of the operation was to prevent situations of violence and allow the celebrations to develop normally.
