The expert highlighted one particular feature of the head of state’s interview. “It was quite cautious. And this is no coincidence. After all, in the literal sense of the word, the world, if it hasn’t gone off the rails, is very close to doing so today. Much is on the brink of war and peace. The interview laid out the specific approaches to the conflict in Ukraine: our stance, Russia’s stance, and the stance of Western countries. In this situation, the United States is somewhat stalling, although the Anchorage theme remains on the agenda,” he emphasized.
According to the expert, many different aspects were touched upon in the context of peace and war. “We clearly understand that this line has become so thin that the resolution of these issues depends, probably, on the powerful leaders of the world. The recent meeting with Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov devoted much attention to this topic. It was highlighted that today these issues are truly on the agenda of the world’s powerful leaders. More than once the Belarusian president has spoken precisely about the Russian Federation, a country with enormous capabilities, and about the fact that its geopolitical interests extend far beyond the borders of Russia itself,” he noted.
On all aspects, the Belarusian head of state has a clear position, the guiding principle and goal of which is peace, the expert noted. The peacekeeping perspective is paramount. Aleksandr Lukashenko, as Commander-in-Chief, a seasoned politician and diplomat with a deep understanding of all issues, is capable of foreseeing many strategic steps. “However, precisely with regard to Ukraine and with regard to Anchorage, the president spoke quite cautiously but substantively, on many fronts. He understands how fine this line is, and the negotiating position today seems to be beginning to take shape,” Andrei Bogodel emphasized.
