The Democratic Option (OD) party described as failed the dialogues called by the President of the Republic Luis Abinader throughout his mandates, considering that these have only been a media exercise.
Through a press release, the political organization maintained that these dialogues have not generated concrete results or real solutions to the country’s problems, since the consultation processes promoted by the Government, such as the Dialogue for Reforms in 2021, the Dialogue for the Haiti Crisis in 2023 and the discussions after the 2024 elections under the Meta Plan 2036, have been marked by the lack of will to incorporate the proposals of the different sectors.
Through it, the party affirmed that these spaces have been used as tools to project an image of openness, while the Executive promotes an agenda that favors the elites and does not respond to the needs of the majority of the population.
Likewise, the party questioned the most recent call for a national agreement in the face of the impact of the international crisis, pointing out that it follows the same pattern of “publicity efforts” and seeks to cover up the Government’s lack of planning.
“It is once again intended to cover up improvisation and the vocation to transfer the effects of the crisis to the most vulnerable sectors through conversations with sectors of the opposition. The PRM once again finds itself without proposals, without plans and without a defined course to face the country’s challenges,” states the statement from the party chaired by former deputy José Horacio Rodríguez.
OD warned that calling for dialogue without a clear agenda or willingness to listen empties these processes of meaning and weakens citizen confidence in democracy.
“Conversing with someone who does not know what they want, who has shown no empathy with the sufferings of the population and whose only motive is to achieve an advertising effect for propaganda purposes, is betraying the spirit of democracy,” the statement states.
The political organization also considered that the Government lacks a clear direction to face current challenges, while criticizing what it defined as a lack of empathy towards the difficulties that citizens are going through.
“The Dominican people expect solutions to old and new challenges. They cannot tolerate a smokescreen of inefficiency or media responses without real impact on the difficult lives of Dominican men and women,” he concluded.
