Reconstruction of a strategically important bridge: when will the work begin? | Business

“Via Lietuva” has signed a contract for the capital repair and reconstruction works of one of the most important infrastructure objects of Ukmergė – the bridge over Šventoja, located on the national road Ukmergė-Molėtai (No. 115). The project aims to fundamentally improve traffic safety, communication conditions and update infrastructure in poor condition.

As part of the project “Major repair of the 0.393 km bridge over Šventųja and reconstruction of the section from 0.512 to 0.836 km of the national road No. 115 Ukmergė-Molėtai”, the strategically important bridge over Šventųja in Ukmergė will be renovated and the adjacent section of the road will be reconstructed.

During the repair of the capital bridge over Šventůja, the beams of the bridge will be repaired and strengthened, the embankment supports will be repaired and the worn bearings will be replaced. The structure of the bridge deck, side bridge panels, new deformation sections, galvanized metal barriers, railings and modern lighting will also be completely changed.

In order to protect the building from the negative effects of the environment, new waterproofing, a water drainage system and water collection wells will be installed at the entrances. The project also envisages fixing the surrounding infrastructure – cleaning and repairing the slopes, renovating the stairs on one side, and installing new sloping stairs on the other side.

During the reconstruction of national road no. 115 Ukmergė-Molėtai section from 0.512 to 0.836 km, the road surface will be repaired, a parking lane made of concrete pavers will be installed on the left side of the road and a technical sidewalk 0.5 m wide. It is also planned to install a safety island with an unregulated pedestrian crossing, reconstruct seven intersections, install guiding surfaces for the blind, new rainwater collection networks and install a road drainage system along the entire stretch.

“I am glad that we are rapidly reducing the number of bridges in emergency condition. This year we will repair 25 bridges and overpasses, and by the end of 2028 we will renovate as many as 105 bridges in emergency condition throughout Lithuania. Each repaired bridge means not only safer traffic, but also livelier regions, when people travel more comfortably to work, school or to doctors every day,” says Minister of Communications Juras Taminskas.

“The bridge over Šventoja is one of the most important infrastructure objects in Ukmerge, so its condition directly affects both traffic safety and the daily mobility of residents. The structure has been in use for a long time and is worn out, so major repairs are necessary in order to ensure safe and convenient transportation in the future,” says Martynas Gedaminskas, CEO of Via Lietuva.

The project contractor is Švykai UAB. The contract value of the contract amounts to 5.33 million. EUR including VAT, and the works are planned to be completed by 2027. the end The technical design of the project was prepared by UAB “INHUS Engineering”.
