London, June 13, 2026 (SPS) – The British solidarity organization Sandblast, in cooperation with the representation of the Polisario Front in the United Kingdom, organized a political and human rights conference entitled: “Western Sahara: Africa’s Last Colony – Occupation, Resistance, Exile, and Parallels with Palestine.”
The conference provided an opportunity to shed light on the Sahrawi people’s struggle for freedom and independence, while examining the similarities between the Sahrawi and Palestinian causes in terms of colonial experiences, forms of occupation and repression, the situation of exile and displacement, and the continued international support afforded to the occupying powers in both cases.
The event featured contributions from activists and advocates and included firsthand testimonies from Sahrawi activists regarding the human rights situation in the occupied territories. Participants also viewed two documentary films focusing on the Sahrawi cause.
The conference further discussed the latest political developments related to the question of Western Sahara, with participants emphasizing the importance of strengthening international solidarity with the Sahrawi people and supporting their inalienable right to self-determination and independence in accordance with international legitimacy and United Nations resolutions.
The event concluded with a call to continue efforts aimed at raising awareness of the Sahrawi cause, exposing violations committed in the occupied territories, and strengthening bonds of solidarity among peoples struggling for freedom and justice.
