In the USA, the death of Laura Ann Aim, who was killed in 1974, was revealed by teenagers.
The analysis of a DNA sample, which was kept for almost 52 years, showed that the girl’s life was taken by one of the most famous American serial killers, Ted Bundy. informs The New York Times.
A man responsible for dozens of deaths was executed back in 1989, and since then many documentaries have been filmed about him.
Bundy himself confessed to the crime. What is known about Laura’s death
In late November 1974, two students were walking through the American Fork Canyon in Utah. The couple unexpectedly stumbled upon the body of 17-year-old Laura Ann Aim.
15 years later, one of the most famous serial killers, Ted Bundy, confessed to killing 30 women, including Laura. However, law enforcement officials said they did not consider the statement to be sufficient evidence because he refused to provide any details that could confirm the murder.
52 years after the girl’s death, the case was finally closed. This was helped by the study of sperm, which was removed from the body of the murdered girl and kept all this time in the national criminal database. Now experts have found a match of the liquid with Ted Bundy’s DNA.
The investigation established that the man killed the teenager according to a scheme he often used during mass attacks in the 1970s. When Bundy was a law student, he often abducted young women from college campuses at night or from crowded parks during the day.
According to eyewitness accounts, Bundy used his good looks and charm to lure victims. Sometimes he showed a bandaged arm or leg to evoke sympathy.
The man often strangled the women, sexually assaulted them, and then mutilated their bodies and dumped them in a remote area.
Investigators believe Bundy kidnapped Laura and kept her alive for several days or weeks before killing her. The body of the teenager found in the canyon was naked and bound and had traces of a brutal beating.
A nylon stocking with which the girl was strangled was found nearby.
“We can now say without a doubt that Theodore ‘Ted’ Bundy did indeed kill Laura Ann Aim in the fall of 1974. Law enforcement now has DNA results that meet the latest standards.
This will facilitate any future comparisons of DNA tests for those agencies that still have open Bundy cases.”Utah County Sheriff Mike Smith said.
At the press conference, the younger sister of the murdered woman stated that she did not even know that her relative’s case was not closed until recently.
“It’s really surprising that people are still interested in Laura’s case. But I appreciate it (…)
I know (the sister) would be very happy to know that her case is closed. And Ted Bundy is gnashing his teeth in hell. I don’t even like to think about people doing this. But he and a few others got what they deserved.”– shared Michelle Impala.
Who is Ted Bundy?
Theodore “Ted” Bundy was born in 1946 in Vermont in a dysfunctional family. As a boy, he was convinced that he was born to a woman he believed to be his sister.
Bundy excelled academically and was actively involved in political activities and pretended to be a model citizen. Despite this image, he kidnapped, tortured, raped and killed young women in seven states in the period from about 1974 to 1978.
Despite the gruesome nature of the crimes, Bundy became distinctive a celebrityespecially during the escape from custody in 1977. His trial was widely covered, and his “charm” and intelligence attracted public attention.
The Bundy case became the basis for popular serial killer novels and movies. Even some criminologists accused the media of creating a romantic image of Bundy.
On the eve of the death penalty, the man confessed to the murder of 30 women, but it is assumed that his victims were hundreds. In the end, the law enforcement officers were able to prove the guilt of Bundy in three deaths of people, including a 12-year-old girl. The criminal was executed by electric chair in 1989.
