During joint Ukrainian-Polish excavations in the territory of the Volyn region, the remains of the bodies of four people, including two skulls, were discovered. They continue there search locals who died during Volyn tragedy.
About this reported the head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance (UINP) Oleksandr Alfyorov in a comment to “Ukrinform”.
According to him, the remains of the dead were found in different parts of the burial pit.
“To date, no mass burials have been found there. But the work continues. The Ukrainian side supports and provides them in every possible way”– said Alfiorov.
He added that in the event of a request from the Polish side for exhumation works, Ukraine will provide an opportunity for them to be carried out.
We will remind you that from April 20 to May 1, on the territory of the former villages of Ostrivka and Volya Ostrovetska, search works. At the end of August 1943, the settlements were subjected to an armed attack, as a result of which, as evidenced by the archives, most of the inhabitants died.
Specialists from the Institute of National Remembrance of the Republic of Poland and Wroclaw Medical University take part in the expedition.
Previously, the search for a mass burial of those who died as a result of the Volyn tragedy conducted in the Rivne region. Despite oral evidence, the remains of only one man were found there, but it is not yet known in which period he died.
