Muscat: After several weeks of intense summer heat and prolonged dry conditions, parts of the Sultanate of Oman are expected to receive much-needed relief today, with forecasts indicating rainfall and thunderstorms over the al Hajar mountains and surrounding areas.
According to weather updates, convective cloud activity is expected to develop over the mountainous areas, bringing showers and occasional thunderstorms that may help moderate temperatures and provide relief to those places.
Alongside the rainfall activity, the weather is also expected to be influenced by active wind conditions in several parts of the country.
In the al Hajar Mountains, sudden downdraft winds associated with storm clouds may lead to temporarily reduced visibility and localized dust movement from 1:00pm onwards.
Meanwhile, coastal areas, including al Duqm, al Jazir, Mahout and Masirah, are also expected to experience fresh to strong winds.
These conditions may lead to rising sea activity and blowing sand across open areas and roads.
Oman Meteorology advised the public to exercise caution, particularly when traveling near wadis and low-lying areas during periods of rainfall, and to follow official weather updates regularly.
