Last Tuesday, the President of the United States claimed that a peace agreement with Iran is just around the corner.
An agreement on an end to the war in Iran could be in place as early as two or three days, US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday night.
But the message that an agreement is imminent is not new.
In fact, Trump has said it 37 times during the war against Iran, according to a calculation made by the American media CNN.
– It is clearly not a claim that people should take seriously anymore, writes CNN in an analysis in connection with the statement.
Ceasefire concluded two months ago
Two months ago, the United States and Iran reached an agreement on a cease-fire.
In that connection – April 7 – Trump said that the parties were close to an agreement that would end the war definitively. According to the president, Iran and the United States then needed two weeks to get the agreement “concluded and executed.”
As you know, that didn’t happen.
He has made the same claim on a number of other occasions.
On Tuesday night, the US president said again that the US and Iran are close to agreeing on a final end to the war.
– We are in the final stages of what is going to be a very, very good deal, and which will in no way allow nuclear weapons, Trump told reporters, according to CNN, after attending the finals of the NBA basketball league in New York.
During the ceasefire, which has put an end to the majority of American and Iranian attacks, the United States has imposed a blockade on Iranian ports.
The blockade has resulted in several US attacks targeting ships which, according to the US, have either sailed from or to Iranian ports.
Attack carried out on Monday
Israel and Iran have also ceased most attacks, but on Monday the two countries attacked each other.
Iran launched missile attacks against Israel allegedly because of Israel’s continued attacks against the Hezbollah militia in Lebanon.
Hezbollah is allied with and supported by Iran.
On Monday, the President of the United States told the American media Axios that he had warned the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, against resuming the war against the Iranians.
– I said: Bibi (Netanyahu, ed.), you better be careful, otherwise you will be left to your own devices very soon, Trump said.
