On Monday, Inatsisartut debated the possibility of establishing incineration plants in two cities. A politician from Naleraq criticized one from Demokraatit for having too little knowledge of the conditions in North Greenland. The criticized rejected the criticism. The moderator did not allow the use of the word “lack of knowledge”.
Inatsisartut held on Monday a debate on the basis of a question about whether it is possible to establish a waste incineration plant in Uummannaq and Upernavik. Atassat’s chairman, Aqqalu C. Jerimiassen, had put forward the proposal.
Pipaluk Olsen from Demokraatit spoke on behalf of his party. Jens Napãtôk’ from Naleraq announced that he wanted the floor to comment on Pipaluk Olsen’s post.
– It is regrettable that you, as the spokesperson for the largest party, which also sits on the coalition party, do not know the real situation in North Greenland on this subject. It is very regrettable, says Jens Napãtôk’.
Pipaluk Olsen said during the debate on the topic that she knows that waste is packed properly in Ittoqqortoormiit, which, like Uummannaq and Upernavik, is ice-covered in winter. Jens Napãtôk’ assessed that such a comparison was due to a lack of knowledge.
– When you tried to use Ittoqqortoormiit as an example, it showed your lack of knowledge. I’m not belittling you. I hope you will come to visit, says Jens Napãtôk’ to Pipaluk Olsen in the Inatsisartut hall.
The cities being compared are located in two different municipalities. Avannaata Kommunia and Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq. They also each have their own workflows in handling waste. In addition, Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq is a co-owner of and member of the municipalities’ waste company ESANI A/S. Avannaata Kommunia is no longer associated with the company.
The moderator gave a reprimand
Inatsisartut’s first deputy chairperson, Mimi Karlsen (IA), led the debate. And she did not accept the words that the Naleraq member used.
– Do not use words like “less knowledgeable” about your colleagues in Inatsisartut. Other words can be used, says Mimi Karlsen.
The criticized: I will not call you ignorant
Pipaluk Olsen from Demokraatit did not like being treated like that by the member from Naleraq.
– I in no way accept the words that have been sent in my direction about my knowledge. We are all here as elected representatives. We all have different skills.
– We travel around Greenland based on our differences and our knowledge. Therefore, I do not accept that condescension in any way. I also couldn’t think of commenting on your weaknesses with the fact that you are ignorant. I hope you understand that, says Pipaluk Olsen.
Jens Napãtôk’ had no comment on the response to the criticism.
