According to Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the USA and Iran have agreed on the final version of a peace agreement. “We can confirm that there is a final, mutually agreed text of the peace agreement,” Sharif said on the online service X on Friday. Pakistan is now “working closely with both sides to finalize the next steps,” he added.
Peace talks are making progress
“Peace has never been closer than it is now,” Sharif continued. He also spoke of a “relentless disinformation campaign waged by those who want to sabotage the peace agreement.”
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had previously stated on the online service X that both parties had “never been closer” to an agreement. He added that media should “refrain from speculating about the content” until the talks are fully concluded. The contents would be announced in due course.
Donald Trump sues on Truth Social
US President Donald Trump, who had already stated several times that the talks with Iran were close to an agreement, complained in his online service Truth Social that it was impossible to “negotiate in good faith” with the Iranians. Iranian statements about the content of a peace agreement “lack any reality.”
The Iranian news agencies Irna and Mehr had reported on the alleged contents of a declaration of intent that read like a wish list from Tehran. Accordingly, the agreement would have included an end to the fighting in Lebanon, Iran’s control of the Strait of Hormuz, the release of Iranian assets and a continuation of uranium enrichment.

“The conditions given to the lying media have nothing to do with the points we agreed to in writing,” Trump said on Truth Social. The statements from Iran are “weak and pathetic” and the Iranians are “very dishonorable people.”
