Monaco welcomed a moving stopover this week as Les Voiles de l’Espoir, the Sails of Hope, a unique sailing initiative for children in remission from cancer, arrived in the Principality during its seven-day Mediterranean voyage…
The flotilla, made up of 40 sailing boats carrying around 80 young participants, offers children the opportunity to step away from the challenges of illness and experience adventure, friendship and discovery at sea. Often described as a form of therapeutic sailing, the programme aims to help rebuild confidence and create lasting memories in a supportive environment.
During their visit to Monaco, one of the highlights was the traditional “Convoi des Légendes,” organised with the support of the Automobile Club de Monaco. The children enjoyed rides in exceptional sports and classic cars, taking in some of the Principality’s most famous landmarks, including sections of the Formula 1 circuit and Casino Square.
For many participants, the experience provided an unforgettable moment of excitement and freedom. Organisers describe the week-long voyage as a transformative journey designed to help children regain confidence after difficult medical treatment and enjoy experiences far removed from hospital life.
After their Monaco stop, the fleet continued its voyage towards the Îles de Lérins, carrying with it a spirit of resilience, hope and adventure. Through the combined efforts of volunteers, sailors and supporters, Les Voiles de l’Espoir continues to demonstrate the positive impact that shared experiences can have on young lives.
