On the day the football World Cup kicks off, FIFA released the latest update to the World Team Ranking, which had two changes in the top 10 compared to April.
Portugal maintained 5th place in the table, a position it had already achieved in the last update, on April 1st, when it moved up one place, surpassing Brazil at the time. Now, at the top of the classification is world champion Argentina again, removing France, the defeated finalist in the 2022 World Cup, from the lead, who fell to third place, behind European champion Spain who managed to maintain 2nd place. In 4th, ahead of Portugal, is England.
They are followed by Brazil (6th), Morocco, which rose to 7th place in exchange with the Netherlands (8th), Belgium (9th) and Germany (10th).
As for Portugal’s three opponents in group K of the 2026 World Cup, the best ranked is Colombia (13th), ahead of the Democratic Republic of Congo (46th) and Uzbekistan (50th).
