The DR documentary Greenland’s Hvide Guld has won first prize at the Edinburgh Film Awards in the “best documentary film” category, but according to the media Tjekdet, it is a hoax.
It has awakened the joy of, among others, the researcher and source in the documentary Orsugiak – Greenland’s White Gold, Naja Dyrendom Graugaard, as well as the production company behind the documentary, that it recently won first prize at the Edinburgh Film Awards in the “best documentary” category.
Now, however, it appears that the festival and the award are fictitious and only created as part of a money-making scam. This is shown by research done by the Danish media Tjekdet.dk.
The media has found strong indications that the same person is the originator of around 47 fictitious film festivals with associated awards.
The festivals are linked to cities around the world, and they lean accordingly Check it out in terms of name in many cases close to recognized festivals. In the case of the apparently fictitious Edinburgh Film Awards, the name is in the style of the recognized one Edinburgh International Film Festival.
The man behind the festivals is according Check it out from Iran and makes money from the fact that it costs a small amount to set a film for a price.
The DR documentary created great debate when it was released in early 2025. It is about the Danish exploitation of the cryolite mine in Ivittuut, and it was later depublished by DR due to doubts about certain calculations that were presented in the broadcast.
However, the documentary got a real film award when director Otto Rosing won Film.gl’s annual film award Innersuaq for the film.
