Muscat: Outgoing Indian Ambassador to Oman G.V. Srinivas has announced that Indian passport applications in the Sultanate are now being processed within a day, subject to police verification.
Speaking at a farewell event hosted by the Indian Embassy at the Sheraton Oman Hotel, Srinivas reflected on his 15-month tenure and expressed gratitude to Oman and its people.
“Oman has become a second home for me and my family. Thank you for making Oman a home for us,” he said, noting that considerable progress had been made in strengthening bilateral ties during his assignment.
Highlighting improvements in consular services, Srinivas said passport processing times had been significantly reduced. “Earlier, it used to take much longer. We adjusted our working hours, starting from 7am, and I am happy to announce that Indian passport processing now takes just one day, pending police verification,” he said.
The ambassador also praised the work culture in the Sultanate.
“I have learnt one lesson in Oman — Omanis are more productive here,” Srinivas remarked.
He highlighted the longstanding friendship between Oman and India and acknowledged the support extended by Omani authorities, the Indian community and various stakeholders throughout his tenure.
Among the key milestones of his assignment, Srinivas cited the successful visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Oman, which further strengthened cooperation in trade, investment, connectivity and people-to-people relations.
He said the growing partnership between the two countries reflects the shared commitment of their leaderships to expanding collaboration across a wide range of sectors and creating new opportunities for both nations.
The farewell gathering was attended by prominent members of the Indian community, business leaders and invited guests, who paid tribute to Srinivas’ efforts in enhancing India-Oman relations and supporting the welfare of the Indian diaspora in the Sultanate.
