The municipality of Kujalleq is asking all citizens for help to prevent bed bugs from spreading between towns. They come up with good advice to overcome the problem.
It has been established widespread spread of bed bugs in Nanortalik. The problem is now seen across private homes, institutions and other buildings in the city.

They also warn against the risk of bed bugs spreading to the rest of the municipality and further to other parts of Greenland.
All citizens are therefore encouraged to help limit the spread.
– Bedbugs have nothing to do with poor hygiene or lack of cleaning. They can affect any home and spread through clothes, bags, luggage, furniture and other personal belongings.
– The sooner an attack is detected and treated, the easier it is to stop the spread, writes Kommune Kujalleq.
If there are bed bugs in the home, the problem should be dealt with as soon as possible to avoid bed bugs spreading to workplaces, schools, day care centers and other shared environments, the municipality continues.
What do you do if you find bed bugs?
Municipality Kujalleq writes six tips on how to deal with bed bugs.
1. React quickly. Don’t wait. The sooner the problem is dealt with, the lower the risk of further spread.
2. Limit contact with others. Avoid visits and social gatherings until the problem is resolved solved.
3. Avoid travelling: Do not go to sporting events, events, courses or other trips where bed bugs can be spread.
4. Do not move furniture or belongings: Do not move mattresses, beds, sofas, clothes or other items to other residences.
5. Contact your landlord or housing association Report the problem immediately. If you live in an INI home, contact INI on phone 70 10 00.
6. Follow the instructions you are given: Follow the cleaning, washing and disposal instructions carefully.
– Bed bugs move with people and their belongings. Therefore, we all have a responsibility to react quickly and take the necessary precautions.

In December 2025 closed Nanortallip Atuarfiathe primary school in Nanortalik, temporarily due to bed bugs in the school.
