actress Glenn Close is awarded an honorary Oscar award. Also the animation artist Floyd Norman and the British director Ridley Scott receive special honors, as the Oscar Academy announced. The awards will be presented at the Governors Awards Gala on November 15 in Los Angeles. There is no competition for the trophies.
Instead, the board is looking for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences people who have made a special contribution to film and society.
Close has appeared in films such as “A Fatal Affair” and as villain Cruella de Vil in “101 Dalmatians.” The now 79-year-old has been nominated for an Oscar eight times, but has never won it.
Animator Floyd Norman (90) was one of the first black animators to contribute Disney History and has worked on, among other things, “Sleeping Beauty” and “Jungle Book”.
Ridley Scott is one of the most successful and influential film directors of the past decades. He is best known for films like “Alien”, “Blade Runner” and “Gladiator”. (APA/dpa)
