The Argentine Football Association announced today the summoning of defender Marcos Sensi to join the first team as a replacement for Leonardo Balerdi.
The Federation explained in a statement on its official website that Balerdi suffered a muscle injury that will prevent him from participating with the national team in the 2026 World Cup, and it was necessary to exclude him from the list, while coach Lionel Scaloni preferred that Marcos Sensi be the replacement.
Sensi, 29 years old and recently transferred to the English club Tottenham, will replace his colleague Balerdi, the 27-year-old French Marseille player with 11 international matches, in the middle position of the Argentine team’s defense in the World Cup.
The Argentine, the defending champion, will begin his tournament campaign on June 17 by facing the Algerian national team in Kansas City for the tenth group, which includes, in addition to them, the Jordanian and Austrian national teams.
It is noteworthy that the Argentine national team won its third title in its history after defeating its French counterpart in the final of the last edition (FIFA Qatar 2022).
