(KPL) Anouparb Vongnorkeo, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao PDR, met with Anis Matta during the Indonesian official’s working visit to Laos from April 19 to 21, 2026.
The bilateral meeting, held on April 20, marked Mr. Matta’s first official visit to Laos since taking office in 2024.
Mr. Anouparb extended a warm welcome to his counterpart and noted that the visit represents an important step in preparations for the upcoming official visit of the Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs to Indonesia in early May 2026.
Both sides expressed satisfaction with the long-standing friendship and cooperation between Laos and Indonesia, which has spanned nearly 70 years. They also discussed plans to organize joint activities to celebrate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2027.
The two officials agreed to strengthen economic cooperation by promoting trade and investment in key sectors. These sectors include processed agriculture, particularly fertilizer production, as well as tourism, mining, and services.
During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual concern. They emphasized the importance of cooperation in combating human trafficking, assisting victims, and addressing transnational crimes such as drug trafficking and online scam networks. They also discussed global economic challenges, including the ongoing energy crisis and its broader impact.
Mr. Anouparb expressed sincere appreciation to the Indonesian government for its continued support, particularly in human resource development and for its assistance during Laos’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2024.
In response, Mr. Matta thanked the Lao government for its warm hospitality and reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation. He emphasized that both countries will continue working closely together to ensure that their long-standing partnership delivers tangible benefits for both nations.
