Libya has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening technical and vocational education and training, as well as expanding regional and international cooperation in the sector, during a forum in Egypt focused on skills development.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Technical and Vocational Education for Intermediate Technical Institutes, Abdulqader Ghania, said investment in people and skills development was essential for sustainable development and improving competitiveness amid rapid global technological change.
Speaking at the first Forum of Mediterranean Countries, held under the theme “Skills that Shape the Future”, he said Libya was working to modernise technical education programmes, expand partnerships with the private sector and introduce new disciplines linked to advanced technologies and the digital economy.
He added that reforms were aimed at preparing skilled national cadres to support development and reconstruction efforts, while addressing challenges linked to artificial intelligence and the digital economy.
On the sidelines of the forum, Ghania held bilateral talks with several officials, including education ministers and representatives from Italy, Egypt, Algeria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Croatia.
According to the ministry, discussions with Italy’s education minister focused on strengthening cooperation through scholarships for Libyan students, training programmes for teachers, and support to update curricula in line with international standards.
The Italian side expressed readiness to support Libya’s education sector and said a visit to Tripoli was being considered in July to further discuss cooperation and potential agreements.
