Al-Sweihli club claimed its first-ever Libyan Premier League title after defeating Al-Nasr 4-3 on penalties following a 1-1 draw in regular time at Cairo International Stadium.
The match began with neither side willing to take significant risks in the opening minutes. Al-Sweihli gradually became more offensive, pushing forward in search of the opening goal.
The pressure continued after the break as Al-Sweihli dominated possession and attack, while Al-Nasr players largely remained in their own half and avoided attack.
In the 65th minute, Egyptian referee Mohamed Marouf awarded a penalty to Al-Sweihli after a tackle inside the penalty area. Ayyoub Ayad converted the spot-kick in the 68th minute to give Al-Sweihli the lead.
Following the goal, Al-Nasr began to push forward in search of an equalizer and squandered several chances before being awarded a penalty deep into stoppage time. Yahya Al-Zlitni successfully converted the kick to level the score.
With the match ending 1-1, the title was decided by a penalty shootout. Al-Sweihli converted four penalties but to Al-Nasr converted only three, securing a 4-3 shootout victory and lifting the Libyan Premier League trophy for the first time in the club’s history.
