The President of the Assembly of Macedonia, Afrim Gashi, today had a meeting with the Ambassador of the European Union in Macedonia, Michalis Rokas.
President Gashi emphasized that the European Union for the citizens of our country is not only a political and economic bloc, but it represents a commitment to values such as democracy, rule of law, human rights and solidarity. He emphasized that in addition to the fact that our European path is difficult and arduous, the Parliament is dedicated to adopting the laws from the reform agenda. Domestic reforms related to EU chapters and legislation are being worked on, not only because they are part of our European integration process, but because they are necessary for our citizens and for our prosperous future. He also expressed the expectation that we will soon begin a process of negotiations that will be sustainable and that can be implemented in order to bring us to full membership, while protecting our interests.
Ambassador Roxas emphasized that the process of enlargement of the European Union is current and the new global geopolitical developments allow that process to be accelerated. That, he added, will enable the enlarged European Union to respond better to new geopolitical challenges.
The two interlocutors agreed that in the next period the Parliament of the Republic of Macedonia has a major role in adopting the laws from the reform agenda, which are needed for the further progress of the country towards the European Union as well as for the fuller use of the opportunities offered by the EU Growth Plan for the Western Balkans.
