– Children in Sarfannguit now have the opportunity to participate in many different championships around the country, said the mayor.
– Your parents have not had the same opportunities for many years as you have today. Therefore, I hope that you will use the multi-purpose hall in a healthy and sensible way, said Malik Berthelsen.
A project with a long duration
Elected officials in Qeqqata Commune decided in 2017 that a mini hall should be built in Sarfannguit. It appears from the municipality’s information that the task was put out to public tender in May 2020. At the time, the plan for the tender was originally for the work to be completed in the summer of 2022.
Work stood still for a period when the construction company went bankrupt. The road trip for the building was held on 10 May 2024, and according to the plans at the time, the mini-hall should have been commissioned on 1 August 2024.
The mayor also acknowledged that the construction of the mini hall has taken a long time.
– It has taken so long to make it a reality that the children who were children when the money was first allocated are undoubtedly now adults. And some may have already become so stiff in the joints and have had so much pain, or perhaps they have already stopped exercising, said Malik Berthelsen.
About 90 people live in Sarfannguit. Their new mini hall is 294 square meters, and in addition the changing room is 59 square meters.
The municipal board of Qeqqata Kommunia decided in 2017 that it should be prepared and worked on for three smaller settlements in the municipality to have sports facilities. Now one of the goals has been achieved, writes the municipality.
