Washington/ Tehran/The United States launched a series of attacks against Iran on Tuesday in retaliation for the downing of a US helicopter in the Strait of Hormuz, the Central Command (Centcom) reported. Iran responded shortly after by attacking US bases in Bahrain and Jordan and saying it was acting in self-defense.
“US Central Command (Centcom) forces began launching self-defense attacks against Iran” at 5:00 p.m. local time in Washington “in response to yesterday’s downing of a US Army Apache helicopter,” he explained in a statement.
Centcom added that “the mission is a proportional response to the unjustified Iranian aggression,” but did not detail which targets were attacked.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry reaffirmed this Wednesday its “right to defend itself” after attacking US bases in the Middle East this morning, in response to the US attack.
In a statement, reported by the Iranian Fars news agency, Tehran warned the countries of the Persian Gulf of their “responsibility” to prevent any use of its territory by the US Army to attack Iran.
“We warn that Iran will not hesitate to exercise its inherent right to defend itself, including by attacking the source of the attacks and the bases and logistics facilities used for aggressive operations against Iran,” the text notes.
The Revolutionary Guard and the Iranian Army previously reported the air attack, with drones and missiles, against US bases in Bahrain and Jordan, while Kuwait also activated its anti-aircraft defense.
In statements collected by Fars, the Guard indicated that the targets were the United States Fifth Fleet, stationed in Bahrain, and a US air base in Jordan.
For its part, the Jordanian Army said it intercepted five missiles launched by Iran, so “no casualties or material damage” have been reported.

These events occur amid new clashes in the region, where Iran and Israel have exchanged attacks in recent days, leading Trump to demand on Monday an “immediate” end to the shooting, also by his Israeli ally.
The American president said in the early hours of this Tuesday that he could reach an agreement with Iran in “two or three days”, the umpteenth deadline he has set after several weeks of negotiations with the Islamic Republic.
