Martyr Al-Hafiz, June 8, 2026 (SPS) – On the ninth of June of every year, the Sahrawi people stand in reverence and loyalty before the sacrifices of their righteous martyrs, recalling on this immortal occasion the fiftieth anniversary of the martyrdom of the founding leader, the martyr Al-Wali Mustafa Al-Sayyid, the pioneer of the martyrs and the initiator of the Sahrawi revolution, whose name was associated with the values of giving, giving, and sacrifice for the sake of freedom and national independence.
This historic event represents a renewed milestone for affirming loyalty to the covenant made by the martyrs with their pure blood, and renewing commitment to the principles on which the Sahrawi revolution was founded, most notably national unity and adherence to the legitimate rights of the Sahrawi people. The martyrdom of the Guardian, Mustafa Al-Sayyid, constituted an extension of a long path of struggle, and laid the foundations for a new phase of steadfastness and struggle, from which successive generations were inspired by the meanings of sacrifice and determination to continue the path until national goals were achieved.
This anniversary comes at a time when challenges are renewed and the responsibilities of all Sahrawis are expanding, inside the occupied territories, refugee camps, communities and diaspora, which requires strengthening national cohesion and rejecting all forms of division and tribalism, which are the values that the martyr Al-Wali worked to consolidate since the first beginnings of the revolution. He realized early that the strength of the Sahrawi people lies in their unity, organization, and ability to confront various challenges with a firm collective will.
Fifty years after his martyrdom, the fingerprints of Governor Mustafa al-Sayyid are still present in the conscience of his people and in the institutions of the Sahrawi state, the foundations of which he helped lay during a short period of time, based on a long-term political vision and an exceptional leadership personality that combined political acumen, military competence, diplomatic ability, and cultural and media awareness. In addition to these leadership qualities, the guardian remained a model of humility, closeness to the masses, and self-employment in the service of the nation.
Commemorating the martyrs is not merely a remembrance of the past, but rather a recollection of eternal values from which current and future generations derive meanings of steadfastness, steadfastness and sacrifice. It is also an occasion to honor all the martyrs of the Sahrawi Revolution who rose on the battlefields, in the occupation prisons, and in various locations performing national duty, in defense of the dignity of their people and their right to freedom and self-determination.
On this fiftieth anniversary of the martyrdom of Saint Mustafa al-Sayyid, the conviction is renewed that peoples who honor the sacrifices of their martyrs and adhere to their national unity are capable of facing difficulties and creating their future with their own free will. It is a message of loyalty to the martyrs and a message of hope for generations, that the principles and values of the revolution will remain alive and renewed as long as there are those who carry the trust and continue the march on the path of freedom and independence.
