Papa Leo arrived in Madrid at the start of a seven-day visit to Spain, during which he talked about the interest of young people in his arrival, comparing it to the popularity of Bad Bunny’s concerts.
Speaking to reporters on the plane before landing, the pope acknowledged that the Puerto Rican musician is attracting a lot of attention this weekend in Madrid for two concerts as part of the tour.
Speaking about young people and spirituality, he pointed out that many today feel a lack of meaning, and that his visit could “awaken” interest in religion among some.
– If faced with the question ‘Do you want to go see Bad Bunny or the Pope?’, I think many will choose Bad Bunny. But I believe that there will be those who will come and see the Pope. And that says something, he said.
During his visit to Madrid, the pope will also visit Barcelona and the Canary Islands, and he emphasized that he wants to send a message of unity in a country burdened by political divisions and church scandals.
Speaking about sports, when asked about the rivalry between Real Madrid and Barcelona, he replied that “the Pope supports all teams”, but added that he is personally with Real Madrid. He also confirmed that he will support the United States of America at the upcoming World Cup.
The Pope also touched on topics such as Ukraine, Lebanon and the concept of a “just war”, which he considers to be outdated, and during the visit he also announced his desire to one day visit Normandy as Pope, recalling his father’s participation in the Second World War.
