Florentino Perez remains the president of Real Madrid after defeating his opponent Enrique Rikelme in the club elections held on Sunday.
The experienced 79-year-old official thus secured a new mandate until 2030, which means that, if he completes it, he will spend as many as 27 of the last 30 years at the head of the royal club.
After the announcement of the results, Perez thanked the club members for their support and pointed out that his candidacy achieved the second best election result in the history of Real Madrid.
“This is a very happy day for Real Madrid. We won at all polling stations and achieved the second best result in the history of club elections. We wanted to show an example of transparency and democracy,” said Perez after the election victory.
New goals and the return of Mourinho
Perez emphasized that the main goal in the new term will be winning the 16th European Championship title, after Real won the last UEFA Champions League trophy in 2024.
According to him, the club wants to maintain its status as one of the most successful and influential sports collectives in the world, both on and off the field.
Real Madrid is currently the record holder with 15 European championship titles won, and Perez believes that the club has the capacity to further push the boundaries of success.
His confirmation that Jose Mourinho is returning to the club attracted special attention, stating “SiempreMadrid“. “We are very proud to have the best players in the world and that one of the best coaches in the world, Don Jose Mourinho, is returning to Real Madrid,” said Perez.
Mourinho is no stranger to “Madridists”
The Portuguese specialist already managed the Madrid club from 2010 to 2013, winning the Spanish championship, the King’s Cup and the Super Cup.
The president of Real concluded that the club will continue to belong to its members, stressing that it will also work to gain the trust of those who did not support it in these elections.
