KUCHING (June 8): Democratic Action Party Socialist Youth (Dapsy) Stampin branch chief Soo Tien Ren has stepped down from his position following the branch’s recent election, paving the way for Sylverster Lim Kai Bin to assume the leadership role.

Soo, who led efforts to rebuild and strengthen the branch in recent years, opted not to seek re-election, saying the time had come for a new generation of leaders to take on greater responsibilities within the youth wing.

“The purpose of rebuilding Dapsy Stampin was to provide more young people with a platform to participate in politics, serve the community, and pursue the ideals they believe in.

“Now that Dapsy Stampin has gradually been reorganised and strengthened, I believe it is time for more young people to step forward, shoulder responsibilities and exercise leadership,” he said in a statement.

Soo, who currently serves as Dapsy Sarawak deputy chief, said his decision would allow younger leaders from diverse backgrounds to contribute their ideas and strengths to the organisation.

“Politics should not be a stage reserved for only a few. Youth politics must continue to renew itself and pass the baton to the next generation.

“We want to give more young people the opportunity to do what they want to do and to push for the change they believe in,” he said.

Expressing confidence in his successor, Soo described Lim as an active figure in youth cultural and community initiatives in Kuching.

According to him, Lim has been actively involved in promoting lion dance culture and coaching football, while also organising several state-level football tournaments.

“He has maintained close engagement with youth groups over the years. Not only is he a hands-on executor, he is also a young leader capable of leading a team, uniting young people and turning ideas into action

“Lim is not someone who merely talks. He is someone who works, organises and is willing to take responsibility.

“I believe that under his leadership, Dapsy Stampin will continue to grow and develop a direction that belongs to the new generation of young people,” he said.

Despite relinquishing the Dapsy Stampin branch chief’s post, Soo said he would continue supporting youth development efforts in Stampin and remain committed to assisting Lim and other young leaders through his role at the state level.

He added that he would continue working with Dapsy Sarawak leaders to encourage greater youth participation in public affairs, community service, cultural and sporting activities, as well as political training programmes.

Soo also expressed appreciation to party members, youth supporters and community partners who had contributed to the rebuilding of Dapsy Stampin.

“Dapsy Stampin will continue to serve as a platform connecting young people with society, so that youth will not merely be passive participants, but an important force in driving change,” he said.
