Several employees were injured at Frankfurt Airport on Thursday when the nose gear of a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner passenger plane at the boarding gate unexpectedly collapsed and the front of the plane fell onto the concrete, the operator of the flight, Lufthansa, said on Thursday.
According to the airline, the incident occurred at one of the boarding gates on flight LH450 bound for Los Angeles, before the passengers boarded, at 12:45 local time. The company’s spokesperson said that boarding of passengers had not yet begun, and only crew members and ground staff were on board at the time of the accident.
Lufthansa confirmed the fact of the injuries and said that their employees who suffered the accident are already receiving medical care. With the involvement of the relevant authorities, the airline immediately began investigating the exact circumstances and the technical causes of the nose gear collapse.
According to a Reuters correspondent at the scene, the front of the wide-body aircraft and part of the fuselage was lying directly on the concrete, and the vehicle was surrounded by several ambulances and fire engines. The Lufthansa group recently put the 787-9 into service, as the company plans to replace its less efficient planes with these more modern planes in the future.
