“With deep respect, on June 7, we pay tribute to the innocent victims who died in Piva,” announced the Deputy Prime Minister for the Political System, Justice and Anti-corruption, Momo Koprivica.
As he states, their suffering remains permanent in the collective memory and represents an indelible part of the historical memory of Montenegro. Keeping the memory of the innocent victims of the crucified Piva, we confirm our commitment to the values of peace, anti-fascism, human dignity and mutual respect.
“By adopting the Resolution on the genocide in Piva and Velica, the Parliament of Montenegro made an important civilizational step forward in fostering a culture of remembrance, honoring the innocent victims and affirming the universal values of human dignity and justice. This sent a clear message that the suffering of the innocent must be part of the culture of remembrance, for the sake of truth and responsibility towards future generations,” said Koprivica.
It is important, he points out, to continue with concrete steps that will contribute to the permanent preservation of the memory of the innocent victims of the martyrdom of Piva, through adequate placement of this topic in educational programs, the development of memorial contents and the commemoration of Remembrance Day.
“What is defined in the Resolution also obliges us to do that, but above all the debt to the innocent victims and future generations”, concludes Koprivica.
