FC Petrolul Ploiești ended the SuperLiga season with a humiliating defeat, 1-5 at home against Oțelul Galați, but managed to avoid relegation and the play-off.
At the end of a tense season, the president of the club, Claudiu Tudor, launched a harsh attack on the local authorities, accusing the total lack of support for the county’s flag team.
“I’m ashamed of their shame. Local politicians came to the team’s locker room, with promises of support and nothing was done. Oil is good for advertising, but when it’s time to help, the phone was closed,” said Claudiu Tudor for observatorulph.ro.
“The level of debts is public on the club’s website. There is nothing hidden. They are around 9 million euros. Eight of them were accumulated in the last four years of the SuperLiga, with one million we came with it from the II league in the year we were promoted. Divided by years, the amount represents two million euros per year that we cannot produce,” the president also said.
Claudiu Tudor also criticized the fans’ low interest in subscriptions and attendance at the stadium.
“We only have 1,500 subscriptions. They are matches in which we collect less than 10,000 lei per ticket, and organizing a home game costs over 100,000 lei”, said the club official.
Regarding the future of the team, the management announces major changes. Petrol will enter a process of reorganization, with lower salaries, the promotion of young people from the Academy and a reconstruction of the lot.
“It’s important to survive. It will be harder than this year. It’s an unequal battle with teams supported by town halls and local councils,” warned Tudor.
