The president of the New Romania Party, Constantin Sebastian Popescu, who ran three times in the presidential elections, was sent to court for sexual corruption of a minor. However, the file does not appear on the court portal. In August 2025, Popescu was accused by the “Justiciarul din Berceni” of allegedly trying to have sexual relations with a minor whom he approached online and convinced him to meet.
Sebastian Popescu, who ran for the presidential elections in 2019, 2024 and 2025, was sent to court in January 2026 for committing the crime of sexual corruption of a minor.
The lack of the file on the portal is a consequence of the legislation in force, not a request from his side, confirmed Sebastian Popescu for G4Media.ro.
The sexual corruption of a minor provided by art. 221 para. 4 of the Criminal Code is defined that “the determination by an adult of a minor who has not reached the age of 13 to assist in the commission of acts of an exhibitionist nature or at shows or performances in which sexual acts of any nature are committed, as well as making available to him materials of a pornographic nature are punishable by imprisonment from 3 months to one year or a fine.”
The file is related to the incident from August 2025, in which the “Justiciarul din Berceni” notified the police about the meeting with the minor, but Sebastian Popescu was sent to court only for the fact that “the defendant made available to the minor an image of a pornographic nature”.
“On August 24, 2025, police officers from the General Directorate of Police of the Municipality of Bucharest – Police Section 27 were alerted, by calling 112, regarding the fact that a 45-year-old man had proposed to a minor to have intimate relations through a social network,” the Police announced at the time.
From January until now, the former candidate for the presidential elections is under judicial control in the case of sexual corruption of a minor.
