    The dramatic testimony of the main witness of Avril’s femicide in Ciudad del Plata: what the high school resolved and what is known about the case


    The death of Avril, a 19-year-old girl murdered in Ciudad del Platashocked neighbors, family and fellow students. While the Prosecutor’s Office prepares the formalization of the investigation against the alleged perpetrator of the crime, a 21-year-old man who confessed to the attackdetails of the minutes before the femicide and the repercussions it generated in the educational community began to emerge.

    This Thursday night, family, friends and neighbors held a mobilization to demand justice for the young woman, who was stabbed on public roads by a former classmate.

    The story of the teenager who witnessed the attack

    During the rally the mother of Matías, a 17-year-old teenager who accompanied Avril when the crime occurred.

    As told to Telenight (Channel 4)both had gotten off a bus and were walking in the area when the aggressor appeared unexpectedly.

    “When my son was arriving at the warehouse, the attacker came out of the darkness, surprised her, grabbed her by the hair and threw her to the ground,” the woman said.

    According to his testimony, the teenager tried to intervene to help his friend, but observed that the attacker pulled out a knife. He also noted that a neighbor tried to stop the attack by throwing stones at him, although he was unable to get him to let go of the victim.

    The woman assured that her son was in shock and that he finally left the place after a person yelled at him to run because he could also be attacked.

    The high school suspended classes and declared mourning

    Avril’s death also had a strong impact on the Lyceum No. 1 Libertad Lausarotan educational center attended by both the victim and the alleged aggressor.

    The institution suspended classes during the day and placed posters at its entrance. One of them pointed out: “There are no classes today because of the femicide of our student Avril. She was a victim of him and he was a victim of her silence.”

    In addition, the high school released a statement in which it expressed its regret for what happened.

    “We are grieving. Faced with this painful situation, we interrupt classes in the classroom to accompany family, friends, colleagues and anyone who feels this loss. Because gender violence is not a private matter, it is a social problem. Not one less!“said the message.

    What is known about the case

    The crime occurred on Wednesday night at the intersection of streets Rivera and Thirty-Threein the neighborhood San Fernando of Ciudad del Platadepartment of San José.

    According to the police, the Departmental Unified Command Center received several calls alerting about a man who was attacking a woman with a knife on a public street.

    Troops from the Tactical Reserve Group of the High Operational Dedication Program (GRT-PADO)who found the young woman, 19 years old, lying on the street, unconscious and with extremely serious injuries. The police requested urgent medical assistance, but a team of UCOR who attended the scene confirmed his death.

    While the actions at the site were taking place, the Command Center received a communication from the so-called “Little Hospital” of Ciudad del Plata. From that care center they reported that a man had shown up claiming to have attacked a woman. The suspect was detained by the police officer on duty until the arrival of other officers, who proceeded to identify and arrest him.

    The San José Police Headquarters reported that the detainee has 21 years. At the crime scene, the knife allegedly used in the attack.

    The Libertad Prosecutor’s Office directs the investigation and foresees formalize this Friday the detainee for the femicide of the young woman.
