Monaco has stepped up preparations for one of the flagship events of its upcoming presidency of the Council of Europe, presenting plans for a major ministerial sports conference during a gathering of European sports experts in Strasbourg.
Representatives from the Principality attended the annual meeting of the Council of Europe’s sports cooperation framework on Wednesday, May 27 and Thursday, May 28, where they outlined arrangements for the 19th Conference of Ministers Responsible for Sport, scheduled to take place in Monaco on 3 and 4 November 2026.
The conference will focus on the theme of creating safer and healthier sporting environments for children. Discussions in Strasbourg brought together government delegates and youth representatives, generating ideas and recommendations that are expected to help shape the decisions adopted by ministers when they meet in the Principality later this year.
The November event is expected to attract around 300 participants and will form a key part of Monaco’s presidency of the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers, which runs from May to November 2026.
The Strasbourg meeting also provided an opportunity to review the findings of a recent expert assessment examining how Monaco is implementing the European Sports Charter. The evaluation, conducted during a visit to the Principality in March, highlighted Monaco’s ongoing commitment to promoting the values of fair play, inclusion and good governance in sport.
Also participating in the event was Gabriel Revel, who attended in his capacity as President of the Committee of Ministers’ Deputies and presented the organisation’s current priorities and programme of work.
With preparations gathering pace, the November conference is set to become one of the most significant international sporting policy events hosted by Monaco in recent years, placing the Principality at the centre of discussions on the future of youth sport across Europe.
