Rexhaj: The promises in superficial education, it can be seen that they do not always have it

The professor and education expert, Xhavit Rexhaj, said that in a “normal” state on June 1, children’s rights and well-being are discussed, but as we are undergoing the fifth cycle of elections, then in Kosovo we must talk about how to keep children away from the election campaign.

Krasniqi: The opposition feels intimidated by Kurti

At the election rally of the Vetëvendosje Movement in Vushtrri, a minor girl recited a poem in which she cursed the opposition parties. This appearance of hers and the applause from the chairman of the LVV, Albin Kurti, has provoked many reactions.

Professor Rexhaj, in the show “60 Minutes” on KTV, asked the Central Election Commission and other bodies not to allow the politicization of education.

“Political parties should deal with politics and not with the use of children for their own purposes. It is a vicious policy. All that is politicization of education, the Central Election Commission and other bodies should work to remove it because it has harmed us a lot”, said Rexhaj.

Rexhaj also commented on the governing program of the political parties, specifically in the field of education. He said that it is disturbing how in these elections, there is nothing concrete about improving the quality of education.

“I have been following the campaign in the field of education with great fear until now. I am relatively worried because it sounds like a lesson learned by heart and not as a preoccupation of the political parties as a whole. I see it as some formulas learned by heart, curriculum, quality, infrastructure in early childhood, but I see that they do not have it by heart and it worries me a lot because in the previous elections at least there was seriousness, they talked about programs and dedicated themselves to education in in detail”, stated Rexhaj.

He said that it is strange because professionals in this field are not lacking, but they are not being heard. Rexha said that even when they talk about the curriculum, “it is noticed that they do not understand the curriculum”.

According to the education expert, it seems that the leaders of the political parties do not promise in education because the result in this field cannot be observed immediately and therefore they do not even bring votes.

However, regarding the quality of education in Kosovo, Rexhaj has stated that higher education has been given a boost for several years now, but it takes time to see the results. It has also been stated that the politicization of education is not what it used to be.

“The level of politicization of education has decreased relatively well, but we need to work much harder and all political parties should give up on education because they have ‘suppressed’ it enough. As you can see, the number of students is falling every year from 3%, the number of teachers is remaining stable. These already show it. Everything needs a program, a good analysis and then there is a solution”, said professor and education expert, Xhavit Rexhaj, on the show “60 Minutes” on KTV.

During the election campaign for the early national elections on June 7, political parties have generally promised investment in education. It has been promised the construction of nurseries, and a large investment in all-day education throughout Kosovo.
