New meeting held
Together with the Greenlandic head of department for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Research, Minnguaq Kleist, he held a meeting with Mike Needham and the American negotiating team.
The meeting in Washington DC was part of the negotiations between the three countries, which have been going on since Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen (M) was in the American capital in January.
According to DR, the negotiations are proceeding in several tracks. Among other things, the opening of three or four new American bases in Greenland is being discussed.
The USA currently has a single military base in Greenland. It is the Pituffik Space Base, formerly known as the Thule base. The base is located on the northwest coast of Greenland.
DR: Landry’s visit did nothing good for the discussions
In addition to the negotiations on Greenland, Mike Needham also has a key role in talks between the US and Lebanon, writes The Washington Post.
Donald Trump’s special envoy to Greenland, Jeff Landry, was in Greenland for the first time last week, where he participated in a business conference in Nuuk, among other things.
He also held a meeting with Greenland’s top politicians, which, according to government leader Jens-Frederik Nielsen (Demokraatit), took place in “a good tone”.
DR writes on the basis of conversations with sources that Jeff Landry’s visit to Greenland has not done “anything good for the discussions” between the countries.
