This Thursday, the Government put into operation the system that will allow the General Directorate of Immigration (DGM) to digitally deliver the permit that is required at airports when a minor travels outside the country.
This is the document that parents must manage when planning to leave the national territory, with the presence of only one of them, an infant or young person who has not reached the age of 18.
According to what was reported by the Executive Branch during an event held at the National Palace, the use of this public service will have a cost established at RD$6,300; previously located “at RD$5,700 and up to RD$20,000 pesos in tourist areas”.
The Minister of the Presidency, José Ignacio Paliza, explained at the event that the Government made an agreement with the Dominican College of Notaries to set the cost of the payment directed to the lawyers at RD$3,000.
“In this way, the total cost of the process, including the Migration rate, the legalization of the Attorney General’s Office and the subsidiary certification of the Central Electoral Board, It will be RD$6,300“, states a press release sent by the Presidency to the media.
The director of the DGM, Vice Admiral Luis Rafael Lee Ballester, announced that the document will be free of charge for users during the first 30 days, ending on June 28. However, it would only be “for Dominican parents.”
But what does the process consist of?
The government authorities presented an audiovisual in which they explain in detail the step by step that families must take to receive this service.
According to the audiovisual that President Luis Abinader witnessed, users will have to go to the website of the General Directorate of Migrationthen access the sections “Certification Service, Exit Permit for Minors”create a login account and start the application.
Then, complete the required information with personal data: those of the authorizing father or mother, as well as a recent photo of the minor, also indicate the country to visit. Subsequently, review the information and confirm the request.
“For greater security, the system will carry out a biometric validation through a single account. Once the request is sent, the authorizing father or mother will receive an email, with a link to review it and grant their digital consent, which will also be confirmed through biometric validation,” the instructions indicate.
“During the entire process” the relative who makes the request for the document and the authority in charge of delivering it will receive “notifications about each stage of the request and will be able to track its status in real time.”
“After making the payment online, The request will be automatically assigned to a notary registered with the Attorney General’s Office, who will electronically sign the power of attorney. In a few minutes, Immigration will review and approve the request, generating the exit permit certificate. The requesting parent will have available proof that the application was completed and the permission was granted,” the audiovisual specifies.
Finally, the permit will be registered in the system of all immigration control points and electronically linked to the minor’s passport, along with that of the accompanying father or mother. so it will not be necessary to print it or present it at the airport.
83,000 permits
Lee Ballester indicated that the DGM has issued more than 83,000 permits for minors between 2025 and 2026, which shows the importance of this service. “That’s why we understood that we knew how to continue improving.”
“This is making a mother waste less time on a procedure, a family having fewer worries, a father being able to resolve a matter without leaving work or visiting several offices,” Abinader’s president highlighted at the conclusion of the event.
