The Second Criminal Chamber of the National District sentenced this Thursday Angel Martinez to six months in prison after finding him guilty of defame and insult Milagros De Camps Germán, former deputy minister of the environment.
Judge Luz Almonte also sentenced Martínez to pay compensation of 10 million pesos for the damages caused to the former official.
Likewise, he must serve his sentence at the Haras Nacionales correctional center in Santo Domingo Norte.
In January 2025, De Camps filed a complaint against Martínez for defamation and aggravated insult, after a series of publications and videos spread on social networks that supposedly violate the right to human dignity and integrity.
According to the complaint, the narrative was amplified with “mocking language”manipulated images and statements untrue, in what the plaintiff describes as a systematic and viral defamation campaign.
Conviction for Gory Moya
This same court handed down a three-month suspended prison sentence against Ángel Martínez last Wednesday, after declaring him guilty of defamation and insult to the detriment of the deputy Sergio Gory Moya.
During the reading of the ruling, the judge explained that the decision was made “based on the verification of a video that was the subject of investigation.”
Likewise, he maintained that during the process the accused failed to prove the accusations made against the legislator.
