MINSK, 3 June (BelTA) – Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus has bowed out of the Roland Garros ahead of the semifinals, BelTA has learned.

In the quarterfinals on 3 June, the world No.1 collapsed in a three-set battle against Russia’s world No.23 Diana Shnaider, losing 6-3, 5-7, 0-6. The Belarusian blew a 5-3 lead in the second set, dropping four straight games, and was bageled in the decider. The match lasted 2 hours and 13 minutes. Shnaider will next face the tournament’s biggest surprise, qualifier Maja Chwalinska of Poland (No.114), who knocked out Russia’s Anna Kalinskaya (No.24) to secure her maiden Grand Slam semifinal spot.

Before her quarterfinal exit, Sabalenka had enjoyed a flawless run at the 2026 French Open, easing past Spain’s Jéssica Bouzas Maneiro (No.50) 6-4, 6-2, France’s Elsa Jacquemot (No.67) 7-5, 6-2, Australia’s Daria Kasatkina (N0.53) 6-0, 7-5, and Japan’s Naomi Osaka (No.16) 7-5, 6-3 without dropping a single set. In 2025, the Belarusian reached the final in Paris, finishing as runner-up to Coco Gauff of the USA.

The other semifinal will see Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk (world No.15) take on Russia’s Mirra Andreeva (No.8).

The French Open women’s final is scheduled for 6 June, followed by the men’s final on 7 June. In 2026, the season’s second Grand Slam tournament features a record prize pool of €61.7 million, with both men’s and women’s singles champions taking home €2.8 million.
