The Second Criminal Chamber of the Court of Children and Adolescents of Santo Domingo Este issued 30 days of confinement as a precautionary measure against three teenagers for the death of a minor in a halfway house attached to the National Council for Children and Adolescence (Conani).
According to the lawyer Feliz Prensa, adolescents aged between 13 and 17 years were sent to the Preparatory Institute for Young Ladies, after being accused of murder. During the hearing, the minors did not offer any statements.
“When I asked them, they decided to remain silent. There is an essential witness which will later be known in the Gessell Chamber,” he explained.
The lawyer explained that since they are minors, if found guilty of homicides, the defendants would face prison sentences. eight to five years in prison.
“The reasons are still not known. Later the investigations will reveal the truth,” stated Prensa.
Last Monday, a 14-year-old teenager was found dead while she was in a home of the National Council for Children and Adolescents. After this, Conani announced that the center staff was suspended.
