The Second Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice will hear this Wednesday an appeal presented by the prosecutor Aurelio Valdez Alcantaraaccused of receiving a bribe of 10 thousand dollars from a witness in the corruption case of the National Health Insurance (Senasa).
The court chaired by Judge Francisco Jerez Mena and made up of María Garabito, Nancy Salcedo, Yorlin Vásquez Castro and Fran Soto, ruled for the 9:00 in the morning the knowledge of the appeal with which the prosecutor seeks to obtain his freedom.
The defendant’s defense filed an appeal against the decision of the special investigative judge Isis Muñiz, president of the Second Criminal Chamber of the Court of Appeal of the National District, who issued three months of preventive detention as a coercive measure.
Valdez Alcántara, who is assigned to the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for the Prosecution of Administrative Corruption (Pepca), complies with the precautionary measure at the Correction and Rehabilitation Center (CCR) Najayo Men.
According to the file presented by the Public Ministry, prosecutor Valdez Alcántara is accused of allegedly receiving cash from the witness Roberto Canaánone of the key figures mentioned in the Senasa corruption network.
Given the seriousness of the events and the investiture of the accused, the prosecution body had originally requested one year of preventive detention.
