The body of a man discovered in Morvant on Monday morning has been identified as 23-year-old Venezuelan national Enrique Pineda.
Police said officers responded around 6 a.m. to reports of a body at the corner of First Caledonia and Tractor Hill, Morvant.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers found Pineda lying on the ground, partially covered by a bloodstained bedsheet. Investigators said he appeared to have suffered severe injuries.
Police also recovered several personal belongings near the body, including identification cards, cash, a watch and jewellery.
Initial investigations revealed that a team of sanitation workers stumbled upon the body while walking through the area. The workers alerted nearby residents, who subsequently contacted the police.
Crime scene investigators and officers from the Homicide Bureau of Investigations processed the area for several hours, collecting evidence and conducting inquiries.
A post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted later this week at the Forensic Science Centre in Federation Park to determine the exact cause of death.
Police are continuing investigations into the circumstances surrounding Pineda’s death and are appealing to anyone with information to contact investigators.
