The National Institution for Human Rights in Libya (NIHRL) says a man wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC), Saif al-Nasr Suleiman Seneidel, has been killed in Benghazi in mysterious circumstances.
The NIHRL said it had received credible information that Seneidel was abducted by masked gunmen from outside his home before his body was later found at the city’s 1200 Hospital.
In a statement on Saturday, the group said no official account had been given about the incident, warning that the killing outside the framework of the law raises serious concerns about justice and accountability for human rights violations.
It called on authorities in Benghazi to open a comprehensive and transparent investigation and bring those responsible to justice, urging efforts to prevent impunity.
The organisation also appealed to the ICC prosecutor to look into killings targeting individuals wanted by the court, saying such incidents could undermine ongoing investigations into war crimes and crimes against humanity.
The ICC announced in August 2025 that it had unsealed an arrest warrant for Seneidel, issued in November 2020, over alleged war crimes including murder, torture and attacks on human dignity in Benghazi and surrounding areas in 2016 and 2017.
