The clear conclusion of the expert investigation is that a Russian-made drone crashed in the early hours of Friday to a panel house in Galacon in eastern Romania, the Romanian head of state announced on Sunday, according to MTI.
Dan Nicușor stated in his post on Facebook, illustrated with photos of the drone, that the inscription in Cyrillic letters on the collected drone pieces also confirms that it is a Gerany-2 type drone. And the electronic components, navigation systems, control modules, engine and structural elements are very similar to the components of the Russian-made Gerany-2 drones previously found in Romania.
The expert report published by the Agerpres news agency showed that the production markings, technical inscriptions, structural features and the materials used are the same as those identified in the Gerany-2 drones examined in recent years. In addition, the physico-chemical analyzes confirmed the presence of the same substances and fuels that were previously identified several times in this type of drone.
According to Dan, the wreckage found on Galac has been proven to be from a Gerany-2 drone of Russian origin.
The head of state called it particularly serious that such a structure crashed into a residential building in Romania, causing personal injuries and material damage. He stated that Russia alone bears the responsibility for this. According to him, the fundamental duty of the Romanian state is to protect the safety of its citizens and the territorial integrity of the country, and it will fulfill this with full determination.
He announced that the results of the investigation will be presented to Romania’s allies, the competent bodies of NATO and the European Union. He added that Romania, together with its partners, will continue to work on strengthening the alliance’s eastern border and protecting its own citizens.
The Romanian head of state published the results of the expert investigation after Russian President Vladimir Putin cast doubt on the Russian origin of the drone that crashed in Romania. At his press conference on Friday, the Russian president suggested that the remains of the drone be handed over to Russia so that an objective expert examination could be carried out to assess what happened. According to Putin, the European Union has accused Russia in the past without grounds for the flying of drones in Finland, Poland or the Baltic region, which were “turned out in a short time” to be of Ukrainian origin.
Early on Friday, a drone equipped with an explosive charge fell on the roof of a block of flats in the eastern Romanian town of Galac, near the border with Ukraine. The impact was followed by an explosion and fire, and two of those fleeing the residential complex were slightly injured. The incident attributed to Russia was condemned by the leadership of many European countries, including the Hungarian government too. The Romanian government is therefore the Russian consulate in Constanta decided to close itrespectively weapons purchases started it.
