MINSK, 3 June (BelTA) – The Institute of Microbiology of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB) and the Guangdong Academy of Sciences (PRC) have signed a cooperation agreement. The document was signed by the institute’s Director Aleksandr Shepshelev and the academy’s Vice President Zhu Honghui, the press service of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus told BelTA.
The document lays the foundation for implementing joint projects, defining the conditions for their implementation and for further advancement of cooperation between Belarusian and Chinese scientists.
During the meeting with the Chinese delegation Aleksandr Shepshelev presented an overview of the institute’s leading areas of research and innovative products, and highlighted promising areas for joint work with Chinese colleagues. The sides showed particular interest in joint research in such key areas as industrial microbiology, biotechnologies related to microorganisms, and the development and introduction of new strains.
The Chinese delegation is in Minsk on a visit from 1 to 4 June. The program of their stay provides for holding negotiations and visiting academic organizations, including the B.I. Stepanov Institute of Physics, the Institute of Microbiology, the Physical-Technical Institute, and other ones.
On 2 June First Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences Vitaly Zalessky held a working meeting with the delegation. The key topic of the conversation was a discussion about promising avenues and mechanisms of scientific and technical cooperation, including in the field of biotechnologies, artificial intelligence, microelectronics, and materials science. During the meeting the sides confirmed mutual interest in deepening the partnership in the scientific, technical, and innovation fields. Vitaly Zalessky noted the significant potential of joint work and the importance of making the most of existing tools to support joint research projects. Apart from that, the meeting participants discussed the progress of ongoing bilateral projects and agreed on a procedure for preparing new applications to participate in a Belarusian-Chinese contest in various areas.
