The Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) is heading towards the climax of its 70th anniversary celebrations: a ceremony is planned for Saturday in the Vienna Hofburg “with a whole series of international well-wishers”, i.e. representatives of the European right-wing parties. Things get more popular on Vienna’s Stephansplatz, where Roberto Blanco is supposed to heat up the mood among the supporters.
According to the announcement, representatives from eight European countries will be among the guests at the Hofburg on Saturday afternoon: the German one AfD-Leadership duo Alice Weidel and Tino Chrupallathe Dutch one PVV-Chairman Geert Wilders as well as the now voted out Hungarian Prime Minister and FIDESZ-Chairman Viktor Orban will give greetings at the ceremony. Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš congratulates via video message.
For Kickl, the guest list shows “how important the Freedom Party is not only in Austria, but what role the party also plays internationally.” From the liberal side, the Styrian governor and FPÖ regional leader Mario will be in the Hofburg Kunasek Speak opening words. A presentation by National Council President Walter Rosenkranz is also planned on the “Programme of the FPÖ and its roots in the revolutionary year of 1848”. FPÖ federal party chairman Herbert Kickl will then give the ceremonial speech.
Kickl is also expected later at the “Volksfest” on Stephansplatz, which starts at 2 p.m. A few very prominent names from the folk music and pop scene are also supposed to set the mood, such as the Grubertaler, the Wurzel-Buam, Udo Wenders, Hannah, the John Otti Band and finally Roberto Blanco.
