The Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai issued a new decision regarding the organization of technical inspection services for vehicles, specifying the mechanism for booking appointments, categories, and cases excluded from the requirement of prior reservation, as it permitted technical inspection to be conducted without a prior appointment in five specific cases and categories, in a step aimed at enhancing the flexibility of services provided to customers, and improving the efficiency of managing inspection operations in approved centers.
According to Administrative Resolution No. 351 of 2026, which was reviewed by Emirates Today, the categories and cases excluded from pre-booking the examination date include the elderly and people of determination, the technical examination repeated for vehicles as a result of not passing the previous technical examination, the technical examination for the purposes of exporting or deporting vehicles not equipped with plates, the technical examination for the purposes of selling vehicles, and the technical examination for the purposes of confirming data.
The decision stipulates that the licensing institution affiliated with the Authority, in coordination with the approved technical inspection centers, shall announce the mechanism for booking appointments for technical inspection services, in addition to clarifying the cases and categories that may conduct the examination without the need to book a prior appointment for the examination, through the means approved by the Authority, in a way that ensures clarity of procedures and easy access for customers to information related to the service.
The decision comes as part of the Authority’s ongoing efforts to develop the vehicle licensing and inspection services system, and to raise operating efficiency in service centers, which contributes to organizing customer movement, reducing waiting times and improving the quality of services provided, in line with the rapid growth that Dubai is witnessing on the population and urban levels.
“Dubai Roads” stressed the importance of pre-booking technical inspection appointments through the “RTA Dubai” application or its website, with the aim of ensuring the smoothness of the service and organizing appointments at the various inspection centers. It also allowed customers to benefit from the service without a prior appointment for an additional fee.
In the context of developing inspection and licensing services, the Authority recently announced the opening of the way to expand the licensing of new centers for technical inspection and vehicle registration in the areas of Deira, Bur Dubai and Mohammed bin Rashid City, allowing investors and existing centers to establish new centers or branches, in accordance with approved regulatory requirements.
This expansion aims to increase the capacity of examination centers and bring services closer to the population in various regions, keeping pace with urban and population expansion and the growing economic activity in the emirate, and enhancing the role of the private sector in developing the service infrastructure, in accordance with best international practices.
The Authority also provided technical inspection services for vehicles on Sundays through nine centers distributed across Dubai, in a step aimed at expanding the options available to customers and reducing pressure on the centers during official working days, thus contributing to accelerating the completion of transactions and improving the customer experience.
The number of approved service provider centers for vehicle inspection and licensing in Dubai currently stands at 29 centers spread across various regions of the emirate, equipped with the latest technologies, operational systems and qualified personnel, which supports the authority’s efforts in providing advanced and safe services that meet the needs of customers and keep pace with Dubai’s aspirations towards leadership in the quality of government services.
